Inter-diocesan links between dioceses of Chichester,
Guilford and Portsmouth with Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone, were initiated
by former vicar, the late Canon Vernon Herbert, 30 years ago. This is
NOT another aid agency, but the aim is primarily to share fellowship by
prayer and exchange visits. The strength of IDWAL fluctuates and
depends enthusiastic individuals.
Ideally every Parish in Havant should be linked with Ghana.
Our link is set up with St. Peter's Cathedral, Koforidua. That link
was strengthened with a visit there between 6-16th May 2003 by six parishoners.
Our tie with St. Peter's Cathedral, Koforidua, is part of a
diocesan IDWAL link with Ghana. Rev Francis Quashie received greetings
from our PCC upon his recent installation as Bishop in this 75-year old
Cathedral. The congregation had been busy there the previous six months,
getting the building re-roofed in time. Nearby lives the Archbishop of
West Africa, Robert Okine.
Six of our congregation went to Ghana from 6-16th May 2003,
with a weekend in Koforidua, with Dean Samuel Danquah. They met
with Barry Dugmore at Cape Coast Theological College.
THE IDWAL PRAYER
Lord our God, we thank you that in
your wisdom and through your Spirit you have given different and
complementary gifts to your church in different places. We thank you
that we cannot know fullness of your love without each other. grant
that the link between English dioceses and West Africa may be a means by
which we can learn to share your gifts. As we give and receive, help
us to grow together in faith, in praise and making your love known to all
people.
