The vision for the project is for: a church building that is open 7 days a week; busy with people and activities that better support the needs of the community. (Much of this support will be enabled through partnership with other organisations).

The Portsdown Parish Centre project aim, supported by the church congregation and widely known in the community, is achievable when we muster the necessary resources.

The development project is supported by a number of external individuals and organisations who currently provide services to meet community needs, as well as all major hall user groups.

We need to raise a minimum of £500k.

20% of the budget is likely to go on professional fees.

Revised Building Plans have now been approved by The Diocesan Advisory Committee. Other external agencies have been consulted and are in general accord with the current plans which in addition to basic facilities and a new entrance, include providing some enclosed spaces to be shared with and meet the specific needs of partner organisations (as well as our own) in enabling support services to the community. The next step is to move to detailed design.

A Trust Company Limited by Guarantee has been formed to better enable the raising of funds for and the management of the community aspects of the project. Complete control will remain with the Vicar and the Churchwardens. Charitable status has been applied for. This company will remain dormant for the time being.

The recently presented Capital Appeal feasibility study report suggests that now is not the right time, with no active Vicar to lead the church, to launch a successful Capital Appeal.

The PCC on 9th Jan 07 postponed the implementation of the project until such time as priestly authority is restored within Christ Church.

As from the 9th Jan 07 the Project Leadership Team and its’ subcommittees are stood down.

No new actions or decisions will be made concerning changes to the building or fundraising in the short term.

Further expenditure on the project is suspended (other than to settle outstanding commitments)
