Re-ordering and re-development
This project has highlighted not only the need to
update a building, relatively unchanged for 132 years, but also the
opportunity for the church to re-engage interactively at the heart of the
community.
The aim of the Portsdown Parish Centre is to make more effective use of
church buildings for the benefit of the congregation and wider community, whilst updating church facilities

Although the project is almost at the point where a capital Appeal is needed to
move it forward, it has become apparent that this would not be successful
without the priestly leadership authority and improved communications within the
church.
It is the decision of the PCC to pause the implementation of the project until
this priestly leadership is re-established, either in a temporary or permanent
capacity. No further actions or decisions will be made in the short term with
regard to changes to the building. Any further expenditure on the project is
suspended, in this way any donations already given are safeguarded and continued
financial support protected until progress can recommence.
The PCC has asked all members of the project team and its sub committees to
stand down and we would like to offer our sincere thanks to all of them, but in
particular to Sheila Gill and Jim Molloy, for all the time and commitment they
have given and in bringing the project this far. We would stress that the
project is only “on hold” until such time as we have a vicar who can take both
the church and the project forward.
We thank you for the support you have given thus far and ask for your continued
support during this “on hold” phase.
Thank you
Sylvia and Rosemary

External Consultants
The project is supported by The Lorica Trust, a consultancy firm who specialise
in church development projects.
They continue to advise on the strategic management and implementation of the
project; having assisted in bringing it to the position now where it is
achievable and almost ready for a Capital Appeal.
The Lorica Trust are also helping us to identify and negotiate with potential
partners for the centre. The aim of partnership working is to better respond to
local community needs by enabling partner organisations to provide suitable
support services from the new centre; at the same time securing financial
support for the development and long term sustainability of the building.
