The primary concern of the church is service; Christians follow a Lord and
Saviour who came ‘to serve, and not be served.’ St.Francis of Assisi
is rightly revered as a great saint; one of Francis’ prayers contains
these words: ‘Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to
console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it
is in giving we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in
dying that we are born to Eternal Life.’
Christ Church Portsdown is placed within the community of Widley/Purbrook
in order to be able to serve the community.
Great opportunities for service lie all around us; God is calling us -
will you respond?
There are many ways in which you can respond. Everyone has a gift or
skill to contribute. We are greatly blessed at Portsdown with an abundance
of talent. We have more than enough material resources to meet the
challenges of the Lord’s command to love and to serve. What Stewardship
is designed to do is to unlock the resources of Christ Church Portsdown,
and then apply those resources to the Lord’s work in our community.
Think carefully and ask yourself “what is God asking me to do with my
time, talents and money?”
