Huge congratulations to Major Ken Hames who has completed 150 lifetime ascents of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, through extreme weather including hail, snow and gale force winds.
Ken took on the last 10 of his ascents in the last five days. He has been joined by various supporters over the last couple of days including teams of civilians, Veterans and those currently serving from the Queen’s Dragoon Guards and 7MI, plus the Chairs from our Ambassador groups repressing Gloucestershire and Wales, Ian Harris and Robert Talbot Rice.
“I have just completed my challenge to raise money for Alabaré Christian Care & Support and in particular our Homes for Veterans. The past couple of weeks I’ve been up and down the mountain many times. It was a very humbling experience – some times it was really horrendous weather for this time of year – 70 mph winds, snow, and hail. Sometimes I was up there my own and on a couple of occasions I had to turn people away on the mountain as it was too dangerous to keep going.
In the last 5 days to have lots of visitors from Veterans, the regular Army, our Ambassadors and the generally public. They were very very supportive of a what we were doing. We’re almost at our fundraising target and for those who’ve contributed thank you very much. There’s still time to make a donation on my just giving site. Your donation will really make a difference to the lives of homeless Veterans. Despite how knackered I am, I am looking for to the next challenge.”
