Holes in the north drive

The resurfacing of the north driveway at Christ Church is long overdue. There are many potholes which make it dangerous to use and unsightly. For some time the PCC has been working to resolve this and are now almost in a position to commence the project. The plans are to:

  1. Resurface the north drive with a new bitmac finish.
  2. Replace the shingle outside the new entrance with a resin-bound surface. This will look similar to the current shingle, but will be solid, making it easier and safer to use.
  3. Create an accessible parking bay opposite the west end of the church.
  4. Replenish the shingle in the south drive to make that safer to use, whilst retaining the aesthetics.

The project has been approved by the PCC (Parochial Church Council) and the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches). The next stage in the approval process is to gain a faculty. This is the legal permission for the work to proceed, granted by the Chancellor of the Diocese of Portsmouth.

Before the Chancellor will consider our application, a public notice will be displayed on our building, so that people know what we intend to do. You can see that notice below.

This work will cost approximately £24,000. If you are able to make a donation towards the project, please contact the treasurer.
